About

child-eating

Second Helping runs a food pantry that assists food insecure clients residing in the Neshaminy and Pennsbury school districts. We also can provide emergency food to anyone outside of the districts. No one is turned away.

In Bucks County, 1 in 10 residents and 15% of all children are considered food insecure. We believe that no one should go hungry. No one should have to choose between medication, housing, and putting food on the table.
Due to strict guidelines, stores discard food even though it is nutritious and completely safe to eat. In America, 40% of food goes to landfills meanwhile 1 in 6 Americans go hungry! In dollars, we waste 165 billion a year; a 50% increase from 1974!

We seek to collect food from restaurants, caterers, cafeterias, grocery, and farm stores.

These businesses throw out food because it is less costly than storing, handling, and shipping it for donation. We reduce this waste by directly distributing from our facility.

Otherwise, thrown out food goes to the landfill where it decomposes and releases methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas.

To help our community go green and fight hunger, we need donations of food, time, and funds. No contribution is too small and every little bit can help feed a hungry family.

We are are here to serve families in the Neshaminy and Pennsbury School districts, but will not turn anyone away. ‘
